The Queen Mum's Kitty

I was going to wait a bit to post this, but I was so pleased with how she turned out, that I just couldn't wait!

This card is designed for Red Hat Society® members. Members go out in public, as a group, wearing outfits much like the one that the kitty is wearing, and just have fun. The founder of each chapter is known as the Queen Mum.

The die-cut cat-shaped card was purchased at a store called Maine-ly Stamps, located in Kittery, Maine. The cat face stamp was purchased there, too. Both are made by Stampendous...you can visit their website to find a store near you that stocks their products.

First, I made templates for the hat and the dress, so that I wouldn't waste good paper in case I messed up. The templates are also useful for when I want to make more of the same card. The dress was made with paper from Close To My Heart™. The *feathers* are actually leaves from a stamp set called *Whoops-a-Daisy*, also from Close To My Heart™.

I stamped the *feathers* with bright red pigment ink, and then used clear embossing powder to heat-emboss them. I then glued them onto the dress to make the feather boa.

There is no reason why you couldn't use real red feathers, which you can purchase at any craft store, instead of the stamped ones. But in this case, I was working with the supplies I had on hand.

The hat (which I drew freehand) was cut out of red cardstock, and the band was the same paper as the dress. I glued everything together, then patted a plain embossing ink pad over it. This was then heat-embossed using the clear powder.

The cat face was stamped onto the card with embossing ink, and them heat-embossed using silver powder. I strongly recommend a stamp aligning tool for this so that you don't mess up and waste cardstock. The kitty was them colored in using soft chalks.

Finally, I glued the hat and dress on, and that was it!

This was the first of several of these that I will be making. I also plan to make a Pink Hat version to keep for myself...members under 50 don't get to wear the red hat and purple outfit...we wear pink hats and lavender outfits, until we reach The Birthday.

Happy stamping! >^..^<
